Types, limits and defaults below describe resolved values. Runtime expressions must produce these types. Unknown options are rejected; defaults apply only when omitted. Constructor options must be constant after document composition.

plot#

Create a scientific plot from captured numeric CSV columns, explicit units, named series and linear/log10 axis ranges. Publish SVG, PNG, source capture and an editable trusted script. Optional symmetric y uncertainty draws measured intervals. Independent SVG coordinate and decoded PNG pixel checks compare actual native output with captured values. Fixed styles and connected samples only; no arbitrary commands, expressions, fits or unit conversion.

Common mistakes and assumptions:

  • Replace the absolute CSV placeholder and match the exact declared header order.
  • Choose increasing x values, explicit inclusive ranges and matching column/axis units.
  • For log10, every sample and uncertainty endpoint must be positive.
  • Overlapping series may obscure one another and fail independent pixel identification; choose distinguishable data/colours.

Native binding: plot using x:y[:dy] with linespoints/yerrorlines; set xrange/yrange/logscale; svg/png terminals. Output kind: ["image","text","file"].

Inputs: none.

Option Meaning Type / constraints Default
title Required visible plot title, at most 80 plain ASCII characters. Use letters, numbers, spaces and ._()+/-. Begin with a letter or number; quotes, backticks, percent and enhanced text are excluded. {"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":80} required
source Absolute path to a regular local .csv file, at most 1 MiB. Replace the starter placeholder. Exact header order must match columns; every cell must be a finite ASCII number without whitespace. Source bytes are captured and hashed before execution; changing bytes invalidates reuse. {"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":4096} required
columns Ordered definitions of 2–12 numeric CSV columns. The first CSV row must contain exactly these distinct names in this order. Include a unit for every column; use 1 for dimensionless values. {"type":"array","items":{"type":"object","properties":{"name":{"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":80,"required":true},"unit":{"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":80,"required":true}}},"minItems":2,"maxItems":12} required
series Ordered 1–4 connected numeric series. Every label and colour must be distinct. Each series maps an increasing x column and a y column, with optional absolute symmetric y uncertainty. Multiple series may share columns. {"type":"array","items":{"type":"object","properties":{"label":{"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":80,"required":true},"x":{"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":80,"required":true},"y":{"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":80,"required":true},"error":{"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":80,"required":false},"colour":{"type":"enum","values":["red","blue","green","purple"],"default":"red"}}},"minItems":1,"maxItems":4} required
xAxis Horizontal axis definition with a label, declared unit, explicit range and optional scale. Its unit must match every mapped x column. The plot occupies 15–95 percent of the image width. {"type":"object","properties":{"label":{"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":80,"required":true},"unit":{"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":80,"required":true},"range":{"type":"array","items":{"type":"number","minimum":-1e+100,"maximum":1e+100},"minItems":2,"maxItems":2,"required":true},"scale":{"type":"enum","values":["linear","log10"],"default":"linear"}}} required
yAxis Vertical axis definition with a label, declared unit, explicit range and optional scale. Its unit must match every y and uncertainty column. The plot occupies 20–90 percent of image height measured upward from the bottom. {"type":"object","properties":{"label":{"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":80,"required":true},"unit":{"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":80,"required":true},"range":{"type":"array","items":{"type":"number","minimum":-1e+100,"maximum":1e+100},"minItems":2,"maxItems":2,"required":true},"scale":{"type":"enum","values":["linear","log10"],"default":"linear"}}} required
width Image width in pixels, 640–1600, default 800. Both native SVG viewport and PNG dimensions use this value; fixed screen margins determine the data plot width. {"type":"integer","minimum":640,"maximum":1600} 800
height Image height in pixels, 480–1200, default 600. Both outputs use this value; fixed margins leave room for title, axes and legend. No physical print size or DPI contract is implied. {"type":"integer","minimum":480,"maximum":1200} 600
