cantileverBeam#
Analyses a straight rectangular cantilever in linear static elasticity: the x = 0 end is fully clamped and a vertical (z) force acts on the free end. Schemaxis generates CalculiX C3D20R quadratic solid meshes at three resolutions, solves them, and checks tip deflection against Euler-Bernoulli theory, support reactions against the load, and interior bending stress. It publishes the fine editable deck beam.inp, interior-stress.csv (Gauss-point stresses in Pa for 0.3 <= x/L <= 0.7) and beam-assessment.json. Choose it for quick stiffness/serviceability checks of slender beams; it is not a general FEA tool.
Common mistakes and assumptions:
- Geometry must be slender (length / larger section side 20 to 40, width/height 0.5 to 2) and the predicted tip deflection at most 1% of the length; otherwise planning fails with INVALID_BEAM.
- Only linear elasticity: no yield, plasticity, buckling, contact, dynamics or temperature effects are modelled.
- The stress output excludes the clamp and the loaded end, so it is not the peak stress of the beam; do not use it for yield or fatigue checks.
- A correctly solved beam can still fail its declared requirements (PERFORMANCE_NOT_MET); its results are retained but not published to later steps.
Native binding: CalculiX C3D20R linear static. Output kind: ["table","text"].

| Option | Meaning | Type / constraints | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
beam |
Beam geometry in metres. The beam runs along positive x from the clamp (x = 0) to the loaded end; the rectangular section is centred on y = z = 0 with width along y and height along z. The slenderness and section-shape limits keep the beam within the range where the beam-theory comparison is valid. | {"type":"object","properties":{"length_m":{"type":"number","required":true,"minimum":0.001,"maximum":10},"width_m":{"type":"number","required":true,"minimum":1e-05,"maximum":1},"height_m":{"type":"number","required":true,"minimum":1e-05,"maximum":1}}} |
required |
material |
Uniform isotropic linear elastic material defined by Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio. There is no yield law, temperature dependence, damage or failure assessment. | {"type":"object","properties":{"youngsModulus_Pa":{"type":"number","required":true,"minimum":1000000.0,"maximum":1000000000000.0},"poissonRatio":{"type":"number","required":true,"minimum":0,"maximum":0.35}}} |
required |
load |
The single external load: a total force along global z spread uniformly over the free end face (x = length). Internally it is distributed to the quadratic face nodes with the consistent weights (corner nodes -1/12, mid-side nodes +1/3 of each face's share); these negative corner values are a property of the element and do not represent reverse loading. | {"type":"object","properties":{"tipForceZ_N":{"type":"number","required":true,"minimum":-100000000.0,"maximum":100000000.0}}} |
required |
mesh |
Resolution of the base C3D20R (20-node quadratic brick) mesh. Each run also solves a mesh with twice the axial cells and a fine mesh with twice the cells in every direction; each refinement must change the area-mean tip deflection by at most 1% of the theory value, and the fine result must be within 3% of theory. | {"type":"object","properties":{"lengthCells":{"type":"integer","minimum":12,"maximum":24,"default":12},"sectionCells":{"type":"integer","minimum":2,"maximum":3,"default":2}}} |
{"lengthCells":12,"sectionCells":2} |
requirements |
Optional list of up to 16 named upper limits on measured results (tip deflection or interior stress). A numerically valid solve can still fail these serviceability limits; the run then fails with PERFORMANCE_NOT_MET, keeps the measurements and signed margins, and is not used by later workflow steps. | {"type":"array","maxItems":16,"items":{"type":"object","properties":{"name":{"type":"string","minLength":1,"maxLength":64,"required":true},"quantity":{"type":"enum","values":["absTipAreaMeanUz_m","maxInteriorSampleNormalStress_Pa"],"required":true},"maximum":{"type":"number","required":true,"minimum":0,"maximum":1000000000000.0}}}} |
